Maureen Reagan, daughter of the former US president Ronald Reagan and the actress Jane Wyman, died of cancer on Wednesday. She was 60.

Ms Reagan, who was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 1996, died surrounded by friends at her home in Sacramento, north California.

The eldest of four children, she worked as a political analyst, talk-show host and public servant. She campaigned hard for women in politics and for sufferers of Alzheimer's disease, which has left her father too ill to function in public.

She leaves behind her husband of 20 years, Dennis Revell, and their daughter, Rita.
