Schindler's list goes on sale on eBay for $3 million

California collectors place list of names Oskar Schindler helped to save during the Holocaust

An original copy of Schindler’s list has gone on sale on eBay, with a starting price tag of $3 million.

The list, one of four surviving documents typed in 1945, contains the names of 801 men who were saved from the Holocaust by Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who employed them in his enamelware and ammunitions factory. Schindler is believed to have saved the lives of 1,200 Jews in this way, inspiring Steven Spielberg’s award winning film, Schindler’s List.

Two of the other corresponding documents are held at the Israeli Holocaust Memorial Museum, and one is held at the US Memorial Museum in Washington.

According to the item’s description, all 14 pages are typed on onion skin paper and are dated in pencil as 18 April, 1945. The description adds that it was typed by Itzhak Stern, Schindler’s accountant.

The item, which is being sold by California collectors Gary Zimet and Eric Gazin on behalf of an unidentified owner, is listed along with an extract from an interview Oskar gave before he died.

Prospective buyers will have to register and be screened in order to bid on the item. The successful bidder will then be required to pay a $10,000 deposit within 12 hours of winning the auction.

To collect the item, the successful bidder will need to collect it from Israel. The bidding will continue until 28 July at 6pm.
