Science teacher 'feeds puppy to turtle' in front of students

Authorities investigating 'regrettable' incident at school in Idaho

A science teacher is under investigation after reportedly feeding a puppy to a turtle.

Robert Crosland, of Preston Junior High School in Idaho, fed the snapper turtle in front of students after classes had ended for the day, according to local media.

Marc Gee, superintendent for the local school district, said in a statement his team was aware of a “regrettable circumstance involving some of the biological specimens” last week.

“The event occurred well after students had been dismissed and was not a part of any school-directed program,” he said.

It is unclear if the dog was dead or alive at the time of the incident, but former students told East Idaho News Mr Crosland had previously fed guinea pigs to snakes and turtles during class demonstrations.

“He is a cool teacher who really brought science to life,” a former student told the news outlet. “I loved his class because he had turtles and snakes and other cool things.”

The school district began investigating as soon as it heard about the episode, Mr Gee said, and the local sheriff’s office has been informed.

“We hope that any errors in judgement made by a teacher in this instance will not cause us to forget the years of care, effort, and passion the teacher has given to students in Preston School District,” Mr Gee added.

Mr Crosland has not been charged or suspended.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted for comment.
