At least 19 people were confirmed dead and hundreds left homeless after floods described as the worst Texas and Oklahoma regions had ever seen, took grip of parts of the southern US.

A number of people remain missing as emergency officials search for bodies.

The record floods began on Memorial Day weekend destroying hundreds of homes.
