A man reportedly shot himself as he spun his gun on his finger at his daughter’s birthday party.

As they celebrated her sixteenth at the family home in the Texas city of Humble, the man who has not been named, began playing with the weapon during the party over the weekend, detectives said.

In the process of spinning it on his finger he accidentally shot himself in the stomach.

He was rushed to hospital, but his present condition is unknown.

The incident is the latest accidental shooting to draw national attention in the US.

Last month a child in California accidentally shot their mother through the seat of her car after accessing an unsecured shotgun.

The woman was wounded in the torso and was rushed to hospital to receive treatment.

A teenager also died in Gwinnett County, Georgia when one of his friend's shot him as he filmed him playing with a weapon on Snapchat.
