Three people were arrested near the US Capitol building on Tuesday following reports of an armed suspect in the area.

Police said the suspects led them on a high-speed chase before their vehicle crashed, NBC Washington reports. Police also recovered a “mini-machine” gun and multiple rounds of ammunition at the scene.

US Capitol Police warned occupants inside the building of the ongoing pursuit, and issued a lockdown that lasted for 20 minutes. Speeches continued on the House floor and tourists remained in the visitors’ center.

Senator Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat from Wisconsin , continued speaking on the floor as planned, Politico reports.

The Ford House Office Building was also placed on lockdown early Tuesday morning after a suspicious package was delivered to complex. The complex was also placed on lockdown for nearly an hour after reports of a suspicious person carrying a firearm near the buildings.
