A week after Superstorm Sandy left dozens dead and millions without power, coastal residents in New York and New Jersey were again warned to leave their homes as a smaller, but still powerful, storm approached from the Atlantic.
Authorities ordered the evacuation of nursing homes, and hundreds of flights were cancelled as the storm struck the Washington area whipping up seas as high as 2.3 metres.
