Donald Trump hands out cash to child as he votes in US election

The Republican candidate told the child that he could 'make a profit' from the sale

Donald Trump handed out cash to a child as he cast his vote in the US election.

Both of the two presidential candidates have cast their votes in perhaps the most bitterly fought elections in modern history. But Donald Trump took a break as he headed to his polling station to vote for himself.

Entering the school, Mr Trump was greeted by children running a stall that appeared to be selling food.

“How much is it?” he asked, and was told by a child that it would cost $1.

“You can make a little profit, OK?” he said to the child as he handed over a note, taken from a wad of cash. It wasn’t clear what amount the note was for.

After Mr Trump had paid, he didn’t take anything from the child and left to go and cast his vote.

Heavily armed police joined Republican Mr Trump as he voted at Public School 59 in Manhattan, a short distance from Trump Tower.

Hundreds of people watched from the street as Mr Trump was greeted by a mixture of boos and cries of "Donald, Donald".

Earlier Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton was joined by her husband Bill as she voted in Chappaqua, New York.
