Obama joins carolers on Christmas Eve in Hawaii for a rendition of "We Wish You A Merry Christmas"

A group of carol singers in Hawaii were greeted by Barack Obama as they sang outside the home where his family were staying on Christmas Eve.

The former President stepped outside with three secret service agents and joined them in singing “We wish you a merry Christmas”.

Members of Windward ReSisters, a women’s group in Hawaii, said the moment “made their Christmas”.

“We got our group together on Saturday and went with our pussy hats and Santa hats and proceeded to Christmas carol in front of the estate,” Darlene Mandel, a member of the group, told People.

“After about ten minutes, he came out with three Secret Service agents and I was ready with my trusty camera. He was joking because my girlfriend spilled champagne on him. It was short and sweet and made our Christmas,” she added.

Mr Obama was born in Hawaii and during his time as President often spent Christmas on the island.

His Merry Christmas tweet, which included a picture of his family, got more than 248,000 retweets.

It received 200,000 more than Donald Trump’s Merry Christmas tweet.
