Administration says firm’s products used for human rights violations

Chinese drone maker DJI says its products will remain on sale in the US despite being added to a restricted trade list by the Trump administration.

The company, which produces popular drones such as the Mavic range, was one of 77 Chinese companies placed on the”entity list” by the White House.

“DJI is disappointed in the US Department of Commerce’s decision”, the company said in a statement.

“Customers in America can continue to buy and use DJI products normally.”

US government officials said that the firm was put on the list because of its products being suspected of use in human rights violations.

The move does not prevent Americans from buying the company’s drones but bans DJI’s use of US technologies.

Trade tensions between the US and China, the world’s two biggest economies, have existed throughout Mr Trump’s presidency.

Also added to the list is The Semiconductor Manufacturing Internal Corporation,  China's largest domestic maker of microchips.

Social media app TikTok has been the subject of an attempted ban by the White House, which claimed it was a threat to national security.

A federal judge has blocked the ban on the video-sharing app as its owners finalise a sale of its US operation that would satisfy the government.

ByteDance has agreed a deal with Oracle and Walmart that has yet to be completed.
