Snoop Dogg posts profanity-filled video telling government workers affected by shutdown not to vote for Trump

Message comes as shutdown enters third week

The message from Snoop Dogg to government workers affected by the shutdown, was not exactly subtle.

If they voted for Donald Trump when he was next up for election, they were stupid, he said. Stupid mother****ers, to be precise.

“All you federal government workers that’s not being paid, that’s being treated f***ing unfairly right now. That’s so terrible,” he said in a video posted on Instagram.

“If you all vote for him after this you’re some stupid mother****ers.”

The message from the 47-year-old rapper, who broke onto the scene with his 1993 album Doggystyle, came as the government shutdown entered its third week, with no sign of agreement between the White House and Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill.

Mr Trump has refused to compromise on a funding measure to reopen those parts of the government that are shuttered, unless he gets $5.6bn for a border wall. Democrats have offered $1.3bn for border security but say a wall is neither effective or cost efficient. Rather, they say the president is using to try and please his supporters, who back a strong stance on immigration.

On Sunday, vice president Mike Pence led a second round of talks with congressional aides, but Mr Trump said he did not expect those talks to produce results. He said the principals – himself, Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer – were the only ones who could resolve it quickly. “Ultimately, it’s going to be solved by the principals.”

In the meantime, Mr Trump claimed those workers not being paid would “make adjustments”. “People understand exactly what’s going on. But many of those people that won’t be receiving a paycheck, many of those people agree 100 per cent with what I’m doing,” he claimed, in comments to reporters as he flew from the White House to Camp David.

In the video message posted over the weekend, Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, said of the president: “This punk mother****er don’t care.”
