Video appears to show father with hands up before cops killed his 6-year-old son

Body camera footage has reportedly place a crucial role in the officers' arrests

A 6-year-old boy was laid to rest in Mississippi on Monday after a fatal encounter with police last week.

Jeremy Mardis was fatally shot by two Louisiana police officers in Marksville on Tuesday as they pursued the boy’s father Chris Few. Details of the incident are still under investigation but police body camera footage has reportedly played key evidence in the case.

Officers Derrick Stafford, 32, and Norris Greenhouse Jr, 23, are each being held on a $1 million bond.

Mike Edmonson, Louisiana State Police Superintendent, said at a news conference Friday night when the officers were arrested. Both officers were formally charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

"Nothing is more important than the integrity of this badge. Tonight, the badge has been tarnished by these two individuals,” he said after both officers were arrested, according to WBRZ-TV.

Mark Jeansonne, the family attorney, maintains that the incident was not at all threatening to police and that there is body camera video of the incident. Mr Few’s condition has been upgraded from critical to stable but he has not been told his son has died.

Mr Edmonson described the body camera footage as the "most disturbing thing I've seen," CBS News reports.
