A second “person of interest” has been identified by police investigating in the death of rapper XXXTentacion.

Robert Allen is also wanted on a felony warrant after violating his probation for carrying a concealed weapon and possessing the drug flakka, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Investigators said they wanted to question the 22-year-old about the death of the rapper, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy.

He was killed during an attempted armed robbery on 18 June in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Another 22-year-old, Dedrick Williams, has already been charged with murder.

Detectives believe he is one of two masked men who blocked off Mr Onfroy’s sports car outside of a motorcycle dealership and confronted the 20-year-old rapper while he was inside his vehicle.

Mr Williams was arrested during a traffic stop two days after the incident took place, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives have also released a photo of Mr Allen taken by surveillance cameras at the RIVA Motorsports store during the day of the murder.

The 22-year-old person of interest was arrested in 2014 after reportedly pointing a gun towards his then-girlfriend’s head and threatening to kill her in the middle of the street during an argument the two were having.

Detectives now believe he may have been the driver of the vehicle which sped off with two masked men after Mr Onfroy was shot in broad daylight.

Mr Onfroy was at the height of his career when he died, as the young rapper was becoming a nationwide viral sensation.

His death was mourned by the singer Erykah Badu, who recently wrote “Long Live XXX” in a memorial post on Instagram.

The rapper, who had a lifelong history of crime and alleged abuses against women, confronted his demons and visited his own funeral in a posthumous music video for his new song titled "Sad".
