An Israeli teenager fell hundreds of feet to his death after reportedly taking a selfie near the top of an iconic waterfall in Yosemite National Park.

Tomer Frankfurter was at Nevada Falls when he fell, the Mariposa County coroner’s office said. Nevada Falls is nearly 600ft tall.

Assistant coroner Andrea Stewart said the cause of the fall on Wednesday was not immediately known, but it was considered an accident.

Mr Frankfurter slipped while trying to take a selfie, his mother told Israel’s Channel 10 news.

Israel’s foreign ministry has confirmed the death and said it was coordinating with US officials to bring the teenager’s body back to Israel, the Jerusalem Post reported.

It comes after two climbers died while climbing the rock formation known as El Capitan in Yosemite in June.

A British climber died last September after he was crushed to death by falling rocks from El Capitan while trying to protect his wife.
