Indian mob ties suspected molester to tree, beats him with broom before being arrested by police
Residents in Malda district seem to have a habit for enforcing mob justice
Video from West Bengal, India, shows an angry mob enforcing vigilante justice on a local man accused of molestation.
The footage, reported from Malda district in the eastern Indian state according to Ruptly, shows a man tied to a tree as local residents look on. It is alleged that the man molested a female resident, who then sounded the alarm that initiated a neighbourhood search for the suspect.
The video shows the alleged molester being repeatedly hit with a broomstick by one woman while receiving a few blows to the face from a man.
A police officer is seen later untying the man and leading him away. He was reportedly arrested.
Such mob justice is not unknown in West Bengal's Malda district. According to Indian news organisation Firstpost, locals recently beat up a government doctor who referred a woman in labour from one rural hospital to another. During the journey between the two hospitals, the woman gave birth and the baby died.
Locals blamed the doctor, who is now in critical condition.
