Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to trace over the alleged rape of a woman hours after she had given birth.

The 23-year-old woman had given birth via Caesarean section and was being kept in overnight in the intensive care unit for monitoring when the alleged rape took place.

The footage from the hospital in Bahdurgarh, Haryana, shows a man casually walking through the ward on his phone while investigating behind the curtains patients' beds.

A relative of the mother told NDTV: “She is my nephew's wife and she gave birth to a girl yesterday and was admitted to the hospital.

“I was with her till late 9:45 pm and then left because the hospital staff said no one was allowed to stay the night in the ICU. “

The relative added: “There was nobody in the ICU when the man entered.

“All the patients were sleeping, my daughter-in-law screamed but nobody came, neither any nurse nor any doctor.”

An spokesperson for the hospital said an investigation was taking place into the lapse of security,

He told the Indian Express: "There are eight beds. Beds on either side of the alleged victim are occupied but no one heard any noise."

Police are currently studying the CCTV footage in an effort to identify the man.
