Turkish Airlines flight TK 726: Dramatic video shows evacuation after emergency landing

Dramatic footage has emerged of the moment passengers were forced to use the emergency exit slides after a Turkish airliner overshot the runway in Nepal.

In the footage, taken by British traveller Peter Lubeck, shows 238 passengers and crew using the emergency slides in what appears to be a muddy field after the unexpected landing caused by dense fog.

Flight TK 726 from Istanbul circled for half-an-hour over Kathmandu’s International Airport before making a second attempt to land after the seven-hour flight.

During the second attempt, the Airbus 330’s front landing gear collapsed, causing it to nosedive on the slippery runway, The Daily Telegraph reported.

The eerie footage shows passengers sliding down the emergency slide and then picking their way over the field in heavy fog.

Much of the plane is obscured by the inclement weather but the scene appears calm, with staff directing passengers off the plane and helping them navigate the slide.

Turkish Airlines confirmed that all of its staff and passengers on board the flight had been evacuated safely.

“Necessary precautions are taken; after the technical investigation, this unfortunate incident will be determined and announced to the public,” the company said in a statement on Twitter.

Some passengers are reported to have sustained minor injuries but no-one was seriously hurt in the incident.
