Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment three fugitives broke out of a detention centre in northeast China by killing a guard.

People's Daily reported online that one of the prisoners was a death row inmate and that the three inmates fled the area wearing police uniforms.

Prison breaks are rare in China and authorities have suspended four individuals involved in the breakout. The incident occurred at around 4:40 am on Tuesday morning.

Despite initially conflicting reports, two of the men have now been captured. Li Haiwei, 29 was captured by police on Wednesday night at while Wang Damin, 35, was captured on Thursday.

The Heilongjiang public security bureau confirmed that a prison officer had been killed by the prisoners. They initially offered a reward of up to 100,000 yuan (£9,980) for information leading to the capture of the fugitives.

The CCTV footage appears to show one of the prisoners strangling the guard.

Gao Yulun, 50, the prisoner who remains on the run, was sentenced to death for intentional homicide.

According to CCTV America, Wang Damin was caught in the early hours of Thursday morning after he appeared at a local village begging for food. The villagers rounded Wang up and turned him over to the police.
