A four-bedroom family house with an extremely quirky feature has sold for more than $1 million (£615,000) in Australia.

One of the bedrooms in the property in Melbourne has a toilet just a few metres from the bed.

The house, located in Doncaster East, also has a solar-heated pool, a large entertainment area and an open living plan but the location of the toilet is what has caught the eye of people worldwide.

It was listed online with an asking price between $1.05 million (£650,000) and $1.15 million (£710,000) but the exact figure for which the house was sold is undisclosed, according to Nelson Alexander Real Estate.

The property has been described as “contemporary class” with “family flexibility” but users on Reddit, where the listing was posted, were more interested about the intriguing location of the toilet.

“Who wouldn't want to gas their partner every time they went to the bathroom. I'm sold!” one user joked.

Another person claimed they went to visit the property when they were house hunting but opted not to put in an offer.

“I went for an inspection a few months ago with the in-laws but the bizarre en-suite turned them off,” the user said.

If the toilet is too much of a disturbance, the bedroom does come with sliding doors so it can be hidden away.
