Australian police have released CCTV footage of a serious crash involving a car and a motorcyclist, with the latter narrowly avoiding crashing into a group of schoolchildren.

The Queensland Police Service has released video of the incident in a fresh appeal for witnesses. The CCTV foootage shows the motorbike approaching a busy intersection, appearing to skip a red light and clip the side of car travelling across the road, forcing the bike to veer on its side and skid for several metres.

At the same time as the crash takes place, four schoolchildren are seen crossing the road and the front two in the group stop abruptly as the motorcyclist skids towards them, with the bike missing the children by a matter of inches.

Just a few seconds after the initial crash, another motorcyclist comes down the road in the same direction and manages to weave out of the way of a car and continue on.

Police want anyone who may have seen both motorcyclists travelling southbound along the rode to come forward. In particular, they want pedestrians and anyone with dash camera footage to contact officials regarding the motorcyclists.

The 23-year-old man involved in the crash remains in hospital. He is in a stable condition but has serious leg injuries.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
