Chemical arms pact is ready
GENEVA (AP) - The 39-nation Conference on Disarmament yesterday produced the final draft of a treaty to ban chemical weapons, ending 24 years of talks. It would eliminate chemical weapons over 10 years and provide for inspections.
Some countries will immediately approve the text, others when the committee on chemical weapons meets on 26 August. The accord will go into effect when 65 have signed.
