Diminished return
A get-rich-quick pyramid investment plan - forerunner of a rash of such schemes in Romania - announced yesterday it had suspended payments, Reuter reports from Cluj. The Caritas scheme, which took in about pounds 660m from more than 4 million Romanians, originally paid savers a return of eight times their deposits after three months.
