The arrest of a suspected former east German spy has raised serious questions about security in the European Commission, Andrew Marshall reports from Brussels. A spokesman for the organisation yesterday confirmed that an employee had been arrested by the German authorities working in conjunction with Belgian police. It was the first time that such an arrest has been made in the Commission, he said. The suspect was named only as Cornelia N, believed to be an official who worked in the Commission's development policy section, and is unlikely to have had any access to sensitive documents, an official said.
