Anders Breivik won't appeal case if found sane

Norwegian right-wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik, on trial for killing 77 people in a massacre last July, says he won't appeal the court's verdict if he is deemed sane.

Breivik has admitted to the July 22 massacre, where he gunned down 69 people attending a youth retreat on Utoya island and set off a bomb in central Oslo that killed eight others.

Two psychological examinations have reached opposite conclusions on whether Breivik is psychotic, the key issue to be resolved during the trial. If found guilty and sane, he would face 21 years in prison. If declared insane, he would be committed to compulsory psychiatric care.

At the end of the court proceedings Thursday, Breivik said "if I'm found sane, I have no grounds to appeal."
