Cunhal bows out
LISBON (AFP) - The Portuguese Communist Party's leader, Alvaro Cunhal, is to step down after 30 years as secretary-general of Europe's last Stalinist party at its 14th Congress today. Mr Cunhal, 79, said he had grown too old, but is expected to be elected president of the party's national council - a body due to be set up by the congress.
