A cyber attack paralysed the website of a popular Russian independent newspaper yesterday. The Novaya Gazeta's editor, Dmitry Muratov, said he believed attacks on his and other online news and blogging services were linked to Russia's parliamentary election this year and its presidential election in 2012.
Live Journal, Russia's most popular blogging site, suffered a sustained outage this week. President Dmitry Medvedev, an avid blogger, has condemned that cyber attack as "outrageous and illegal".
