Direct rule
The Pakistani government ordered direct rule in Punjab province yesterday, ramming the resolution through a special joint session of parliament to disable the rebellious local government, Reuter reports from Islamabad. Benazir Bhutto, the opposition leader, led a walk-out before the vote.
