Eurotunnel delays: How long will Channel Tunnel services be delayed by Calais fire and can I get a refund?

Striking French workers have set fire to tyres at two entrances of Eurotunnel terminals at Calais, bringing widespread delays to travellers.

What’s happened?

French MyFerryLink workers went on strike over expected job cuts in Calais. The Maritime Nord Union protest ended at 12pm BST with Eurotunnel initially promising that there would not be any delays.

The workers set fire to tyres on the road, bringing traffic to a standstill as authorities scrambled to clear the busy thoroughfare.

Are there delays?

Yes. The company has subsequently tweeted that although authorities have removed the barricade and reopened the French terminal, delays remain. They have warned there is heavy congestion and long delays along the A16.

Day trip travellers are being advised to reschedule their journey, with other customers told they will be accommodated on the next available departure with space. Travellers from Folkestone should exit the M20 at Junction 11 and stay in the righthand lane, ignoring the frieght vehicles.

Can I get a refund?
