Has the Russian Embassy started trolling Nato on Twitter?

Russia mocks the full-size models of military vehicles displayed at the Nato summit with tiny toys

As the Nato summit kicks off in Wales, complete with full-scale models of fighter jets alongside armoured vehicles dotted all over a golf course, Russia has offered its opinion of what it thinks of Nato’s display – by tweeting pictures of toys.

The Twitter account @RussEmbassyUAE, which appears to be the official account of the Russian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates, decided to take to the social network and mock Nato with a picture of tiny toy trucks, tanks and armoured vehicles on the ground, with the words: “#NATO's latest evidence of #Russian armour invading #Ukraine has been leaked! Seems to be the most convincing ever!”

The toy tweet also came at the end of a long day for Russia and Ukraine’s leaders on Wednesday. President Poroshenko spread confusion when he was forced to revise a statement about having agreed a “permanent ceasefire” with President Putin, after Russia denied the agreement on the basis that pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine are not under Russia’s control.

While the Russian Embassy account is not verified, it is not out of character for the state’s communications.

On Friday, 'Canada at Nato' tweeted a map showing the country labelled ‘Russia’ and Ukraine labelled as ‘not Russia’. 'Russia at Nato' replied with its own map showing Russia and Crimea, both labelled as ‘Russia’, with the message, “Helping our Canadian colleagues to catch up with Contemporary geography of #Europe.”
