Holocaust survivor dies during trip to Auschwitz

Eva Mozes Kor, a Holocaust survivor, has died while on an annual trip to Auschwitz.

Ms Kor, 85, survived despite being the subject of experiments along with her twin Miriam by Josef Mengele.

She dedicated her life to Holocaust awareness, founding the Candles Museum and Education centre in Indiana.

The museum tweeted: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Eva Kor, Holocaust survivor, forgiveness advocate, and founder of Candles Holocaust Museum and Education Center.”

The message continued: “Eva passed peacefully today, July 4th, 2019, at 7:10am local time in Krakow, Poland on the annual Candles trip.”

The Auschwitz Memorial also sent out a message, saying: “Only five days ago we recorded a testimony of Eva Kor, an Auschwitz survivor, for Auschwitz Museum Archive. Today came news about her passing away. It more than just ‘a breaking news’. It is a devastating one as one more survivor stopped sharing the story.”

Ms Kor was known for her Holocaust forgiveness advocacy.

In a video recording for the Auschwitz Museum, she said: “Forgive your worst enemies.”

She continued: “The moment I forgave the Nazis, I felt free from Auschwitz and from all the tragedy that had occurred to me.”

Ms Kor’s parents and two other sisters died in Auschwitz. She and her twin sister survived and were liberated from the camp in 1945.
