Iran makes show of force to defy EU sanctions
The elite Revolutionary Guards will begin three days of war games today, including drills with surface-to-surface missiles.
The Irna news agency quoted General Ami Ali Hajizadeh, chief of the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace unit, who said missiles would target bases modelled on those of foreign armies.
The announcement coincided with the beginning of an EU oil embargo meant to pressure Iran over its nuclear programme. The exercises appeared to underline Tehran's threat to strike US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia if it comes under attack by Israel or the US.
