Rome - The board of Italy's state broadcaster RAI resigned yesterday, saying the new rightist government of Silvio Berlusconi wanted a management more to its liking. The resignation of the five-man board was the latest step in a political battle in which the opposition accuses Mr Berlusconi of trying to impose government control on public broadcasting. On Wednesday, Mr Berlusconi's coalition cabinet renewed a decree allowing the heavily-indebted RAI to avoid bankruptcy. But it inserted a clause making clear it wanted a rapid management change.
