A man was being questioned today over the murder of a woman who was found shot dead in the boot of a car.

The discovery was made by gardai in a rented garage during a search of warehouses in Newcastle, south Dublin, at around 5pm yesterday.

The body is believed to be that of 30-year-old Helen Donegan, who went missing almost seven weeks ago from her home at St Patrick's Park in Celbridge, Co Kildare.

A 45-year-old man was arrested last night and taken to Clondalkin Garda station for questioning.

He is being held under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene at Aylmer Road was sealed off for a technical examination and a post-mortem examination will be carried out on the remains later today.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses who may have observed suspicious activity around St Patrick's Park in Celbridge last month, or around the Newcastle area.

They are also interested in the movements of two vehicles, a silver-grey Saab estate and a blue Seat estate.
