Mortality crisis
New York - The collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe has given rise to a health and mortality crisis that could derail the reform process there, according to a report issued by Unicef. The report, covering nine eastern European states, said the stress of social uncertainty had contributed to an increase in heart disease, suicide and murder affecting mostly young and middle- aged men.
