On his bike: Travel legend film found
Hitherto unknown footage of one of the legendary feats of 20th-century European travel has been discovered.
In 1933, Austrian students Max Reisch and Herbert Tichy rode a motorbike the 8,000 miles from Vienna to Bombay. Reisch wrote about their encounters with various perils, and luxury stays as the guests of maharajahs in India: The Shimmering Dream, a book which made him famous in Europe and has never been out of print there.
Now, for the first time, it has been translated into English. Its publisher, Rollo Turner, discovered the film while talking to Reisch's son, who remembered he "had some old film somewhere".
