10,000 parliament supporters gather in October Square. Police try to stop them, but are foiled when protesters march past, then return to square

Protesters leave square and head for White House. They punch through police lines using clubs, rocks and bottles. Dozens are injured
4pm:
Demonstrators reach White House, warning shots fired at them. Parliament volunteer guards storm mayor's office using trucks and guns
6pm:
Thousands of parliament supporters attempt to storm the main television complex, which is guarded by elite Spetsnaz troops

Yeltsin declares state of emergency in Moscow

Three channels go off the air as protesters fire rocket-propelled grenades at TV centre and storm building. Forced back by Spetsnaz and armour

Column of 40 armoured vehicles supporting Yeltsin arrives in central Moscow and takes up position around key buildings
