Silvio Berlusconi’s 32 defence witnesses face perjury trial

The 32 witnesses, including a serving minister, who testified in Silvio Berlusconi’s defence during his sex trial will be investigated on suspicion of lying under oath.

Today the Milan judges who sentenced the former Italian premier to seven years in prison for paying for sex with an underage prostitute, called for an inquiry into alleged perjury.

A string of witnesses insisted his Bunga Bunga parties were not risqué, but innocent dinners.

Bank records showed how the billionaire media mogul had paid €127,000 to three witnesses shortly after the trial had begun. The list of witnesses to be investigated includes three members of Berlusconi’s centre-right People of Freedom (PDL) Party, including the Deputy Foreign Minister Bruno Archi.
