Swiss crack down on foreigners
The Swiss parliament passed legislation sharpening the powers of police to arrest and jail foreigners failing to identify themselves and giving the authorities sweeping rights to search homes, Reuter reports from Berne. The law had been demanded by newspapers and right-wing parties to use against foreigners abusing their status as asylum-seekers.
