With a woven moose and Norwegian flag, a German hairdresser has won the title for the world's best beard.

Elmar Weisser beat 160 challengers to take the first prize in the competition held this year in the Norwegian city of Trondheim.

Mr Weisser, 47, has won the title several times before with his elaborate bearded designs. In 2005, he recreated the Brandenburg Gate in his facial hair and two years after that, he won in England with a recreation of Tower Bridge. He told Agence France-Presse that he worked on creating the Nordic look with his sister from 7am on the morning of the competition.
