Video of dog dying in a hot car highlights the dangers of leaving pets in a vehicle
Basque police manage to get the dog out of the car but are too late to save its life
A video that appears to show a dog dying in a hot car being discovered by Basque police has emerged online. The dog’s owners are thought to have left their pet while shopping in IKEA.
Published by Live Leak on Saturday, the video shows a car outside of IKEA in the north western region of Spain being broken into by police who smash a window in order to open the car.
It has been viewed over 62,000 times in less than three days.
Named in the unverified caption as 14-month-old boxer Fidji, the dog reportedly died after being stuck in the car for four hours, despite emergency veterinary treatment.
Passers-by gathered round as Fidji is lifted to the floor, some in tears at the sight of the dog struggling to breathe. A bottle of water is poured over him in an attempt to cool him down.
“Do not leave pets in cars” reads the title.
