Two injured as Turkey snow fall hits pedestrians

Two people have been injured in Turkey after huge chunks of ice and snow fell from the roof of a mosque hitting passers-by.

The incident took place in the city of Rize, located in north-eastern Turkey.

The footage shows people going about their daily lives - one woman can be seen brushing off snowflakes of a friend’s jacket – before ice and snow collapses from the roof.

The surveillance video then cuts to frantic scenes of people rescuing those buried underneath the snow.

Andalou Agency has reported “a cold snap and snowfall have hit the eastern part of Turkey, disrupting daily life in most of the provinces.”

The lowest temperature recorded during this period was -14C in the eastern Ardahan province on New Year’s Eve.

The cold weather is expected to last until the end of next week.
