Ex-minister pays for bribes link

Bthune - A French court gave a former cabinet minister, Jacques Mellick, a six-month suspended jail term for interfering with a witness, to shield the former Marseille soccer boss, Bernard Tapie, from match-rigging charges. The Socialist MP and mayor of Bthune was also barred from elected office for two years for ordering an aide to lie, to cover up for Mr Tapie at his soccer-bribes trial last month. Reuter
