Riots flared in one of Argentina's poorest provinces, Santiago del Estero, as civil servants looted and set public buildings on fire after being told they would not receive overdue salaries, Reuter reports from Buenos Aires. Four people were reported killed and about 50 injured. President Carlos Menem, on a visit to the Vatican where the Pope warned him that the poor must not bear all the cost of Argentina's 'economic miracle', cut short his visit to fly home.
