'Godfather' goes on trial
Palermo - Godfather Salvatore 'Toto' Riina and 27 other suspected Mafia members went on trial yesterday for the murder of a politician, Salvo Lima, allegedly the link man between Italy's Mob and the ex-prime minister, Giulio Andreotti. Lima, an MEP and Andreotti's chief political lieutenant in Sicily, was gunned down in Palermo in 1992, an incident that cast a long shadow over a general election the following month. Reuter
