Guatemalan vice-president prevented from taking over
Angry Guatemalans demonstrated yesterday against Vice-President Gustavo Espina Salguero, who had proclaimed himself president but was prevented from taking the oath by opposition from Congress, AP reports from Guatemala City.
Prosecutors laid charges against Mr Espina of violating the constitution as vice-president to Jorge Serrano, who was overthrown on Tuesday after assuming personal power. Demonstrators in front of the National Palace shouted 'Down with Espina]'.
