Talks in Mogadishu calmed a row over UN demands for the recall of General Bruno Loi, the commander of Italy's peace-keeping troops there, Reuter reports from Rome. Italian newspapers said the Italian contingent would stay in Mogadishu and Gen Loi would not return to Rome until his tour of duty ended in September. Mohamed Farah Aideed, the fugitive Somali warlord, urged his followers to rise against the UN force: 'We cannot accept foreign domination. I am asking the Somali people to wake up and defend our independence,' he said in a statement read at a rally.
