Izetbegovic elected chairman
President Alija Izetbegovic was re-elected chairman of Bosnia's main Muslim party, the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Reuter reports from Sarajevo. The move paves the way for his replacement by a Croat as the country's head of state in a new Croat-Muslim federation. Mr Izetbegovic quit the position in December 1992 when Croats and Serbs complained that the head of a multi-ethnic state should not simultaneously lead an ethnically based party.
