Khmer rouge leaves town

Khmer Rouge leaders have abandoned Phnom Penh, raising fears the group will step up attacks across Cambodia before elections scheduled for late May, Reuter reports from Phnom Penh. An embassy in the capital said it had received a communication from the Khmer Rouge president, Khieu Samphan, saying he had resigned from the Supreme National Council, the UN-backed reconciliation body.
