Mexican Election: Candidates for president: Six small parties are unlikely to draw mass support

OF SIX smaller parties fielding presidential candidates, 44-year- old Cecilia Soto of the Labour Party is likely to get most votes, though this is unlikely to be more than a few per cent. Partly because her smiling face on posters is almost as widespread as those of the big three in Mexico City, many Mexicans believe her party has been financed by the PRI to take votes from Cuauhtemoc Cardenas of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD).

THE other parties with presidential candidates are:

The Union of National Opposition

The Popular Socialist Party

The Cardenist Front of National Reconstruction (named after ex- President Lazaro Cardenas)

The Green Party

The Authentic Party of the Mexican Revolution
