Mexicans set off for jungle
San Cristobal de Las Casas - A convention called by Mayan peasant guerrillas to prepare the ground for democratic reform in Mexico headed into the jungle yesterday after a day of talks in this elegant colonial city in the southern state of Chiapas. About 5,000 delegates representing indigenous and grassroots organisations from around Mexico, and about 1,000 observers, guests and journalists boarded buses to take them to territory controlled by the rebels to continue the 'National Democratic Convention' until tomorrow.
